Suzanne Ostersmith | Vice President

Suzanne Ostersmith MFA is an Associate Professor and founding Director of the Academic Dance program at Gonzaga University. As a dance, theatre, and visual artist, professor, and scholar Suzanne believes the ideas expressed by the body are part of a universal language that unlocks creativity and innovation. She develops opportunities for students to grow and learn about themselves and the world around them through community, collaboration, and creativity. Her philosophy of seeing the potential and humanity in each student (be they undergraduate or masters candidates) enforces a classroom and production culture that attempts to lift each student to their highest good. Suzanne’s areas of research and creative inquiry are in the intersection of the art forms of theatre, dance, and visual arts, and published a textbook with co-author Dr. Kathleen Jeffs on Interdisciplinary Arts with Human Kinetics. Under her direction, Gonzaga Dance hosted their regional American College Dance Association Conference in 2020 and prior to that she served on the national board for six years. Currently serving on the Dance Educators Association of Washington Board speaks to her desire to cultivate a dance community and audience in the Inland Northwest and across the state of Washington.
